DESCRIPTION:SPEAKER : Elizabeth Stuart\, PhD\, Hurley-Dorrier Professor an
d Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Professor in the Departmen
ts of Mental Health and Health Policy and Management at Johns Hopkins Blo
omberg School of Public Health TITLE : " Using Data to Inform Population
Health: Bridging Causal Inference\, Artificial Intelligence and Statistic
al Foundations ” ABSTRACT: Improving population health involves using dat
a and evidence to inform decision-making about topics such as which polic
ies and programs to implement. But how can we ensure that the data and an
alyses are relevant and useful for specific decisions? This talk will dis
cuss the principles of causal inference\, in particular scenarios where t
here is interest in examining the effects of exposures\, policies\, or pr
ograms on populations of interest. Topics will include the need for repre
sentative data\, the value of random sampling and random treatment assign
ment\, approaches when that isn't possible\, and how artificial intellige
nce can support the goals of estimating population effects\, while also b
eing mindful of its limitations. Motivating applications will come from a
cross public health\, including reproductive health policy\, mental healt
h\, and substance use. YSPH values inclusion and access for all participa
nts. If you have questions about accessibility or would like to request a
n accommodation\, please contact Charmila Fernandes at charmila.fernandes
