Health Care Management (HCM)

Why did you choose the Yale School of Public Health?

I chose the Yale School of Public Health because of its strong leadership, small cohort sizes, plethora of resources, and strong alumni network. Professor Howard Forman, Director of the Health Care Management concentration, is one of the brightest minds in the field, and he makes sure to invest in each and every one of his students. The small class sizes allow for a heightened sense of community and closer relationships with both peers and professors. Being a part of Yale University allows you to tap into all of the valuable resources of a prestigious and incredible Ivy League institution. The most important piece for me was the solid and long-lasting ties with the alumni network, which goes a long way in the job search process and in formulating a genuine professional network.

What were you doing before enrolling at YSPH?

I was student at the University of Florida where I studied health science while on the pre-health track. I was involved with a variety of biomedical research projects at the National Institutes of Health as well as in the University of Florida Health System. I also worked for three years as a quality improvement intern for the UF Health system.

What are your favorite aspects of the YSPH academic program?

I am particularly fond of the robust core courses and flexibility in tailoring your curriculum based on your interests. The diverse and unique core classes allow you to quickly develop a holistic public health perspective while also building a useful professional toolkit and knowledge base. As a second-year student, I have had the ability to take various electives across Yale University. A few of my favorites have been Biostatistics, Game Theory, Pricing Strategy, Influence & Persuasion, and Negotiation.

What was your most impactful experience outside of class?

I had the opportunity to spend my first year living in one of the residential colleges, Trumbull College, as an on-site Public Health Coordinator. This experience allowed me to work closely with Yale College leadership in helping to protect and support the undergraduate student body during the COVID-19 pandemic. I also have been able to further my relationship with Trumbull College and its students, now as a part of the graduate affiliate program, which facilitates interaction between graduate students and undergraduates in both social and academic contexts.

Do you have a favorite Yale place or New Haven food?

BAR has the absolute best pizza slice in New Haven. After a long day of classes and studying at Sterling Memorial Library, I love to stop in for a cold beer and mega slice of their world-famous mashed potato and bacon pizza.

What do you hope to do after graduation?

I will be joining Deloitte Consulting LLP as a consultant in the Healthcare and Life Sciences practice. I am beyond excited to begin working in the New York City office located at the historic 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
