  • Professional Skills Series - interactive training in soft skills such as public speaking, negotiation and networking

Professional Skills Series

The YSPH Professional Skills Series (PSS) provides training in the essential communication tools and practices needed to assess, launch, and maintain a successful career as a public health practitioner and leader.

The PSS is mandatory for all first year MPH students and is administered throughout the academic year by Career Management Center staff as well as other coaching professionals. Of approximately 25 course offerings, you will be required to complete 8 (4 each semester). Satisfactory completion will be indicated prominently on your official Yale transcript.

Sessions incorporate individualized professional coaching, guided peer to peer learning, and facilitated break out groups that allow participants to practice new skill sets.
Successful completion of the PSS will enable you to:

  • Develop Effective Business Correspondence Techniques and Etiquette
  • Acquire Tools for Improving Public Speaking and Presentation Abilities
  • Create a Pitch that Tells People about You, Your Interests, and Your Qualifications
  • Master the Fundamentals of Informational and Behavioral Interviewing
  • Develop Confidence and Comfort in the Interview Process
  • Understand Networking and How to Employ it in Your Internship Search
  • Establish a Social Media Presence that Represents your Brand
