Postdoctoral Associate Position in Social and Behavioral Sciences

Substance Abuse and Sexual Health (SASH) Lab
The Substance Abuse and Sexual Health (SASH) lab at Yale School of Public Health seeks a postdoctoral associate to work under the supervision of Dr. Ijeoma Opara. The SASH lab engages in community-based research on substance use prevention and sexual health in Paterson, New Jersey.

This position requires the postdoctoral associate to: lead data collections efforts; use findings to culturally adapt brief substance use and mental health interventions for urban youth; and provide trainings on implementing substance use and mental health interventions. There will be opportunities to lead publications and design projects under the supervision of Dr. Opara. This position requires the ability to travel to Paterson, NJ at least 1-2x a week during data collection phases and intervention implementation phases.

The position is intended for new graduates or very recent graduates of PhD programs in public health or social sciences The ideal candidate should be passionate about mental health and substance use prevention among youth (specifically from marginalized backgrounds) and community-based participatory research. The ideal candidate should also be familiar with neighborhood level research and spatial mapping design.

Required Qualifications: (Evidenced by an attached resume)

  • PhD in Public Health, Family Science, Human Development, Social Work or related field
  • Community-based participatory research and outreach experience
  • Experience collecting data from youth in a psychosocial intervention trial
  • Demonstrated record of creating open access research materials (open code and open data)
  • Proficient in Qualitative study design, data collection and data management
  • Proficient in analyzing data and GIS mapping
  • GIS mapping experience preferred
