Yale Postgraduate Associate Position at Elevate Policy Lab

A Policy Lab to Elevate Mental Health and Disrupt Poverty
Based in the Office of Public Health Practice at the Yale School of Public Health, Elevate Policy Lab works with government partners to elevate mental health as a strategy to disrupt poverty and improve family social and economic mobility. Led by Executive Director Hilary Hahn, the Lab focuses on scaling and evaluating the Mental health Outreach for Mothers (MOMS) Partnership®. Elevate currently seeks a recent college graduate to fill the Postgraduate Associate role in support of this work.


The Postgraduate Associate will be mentored Hilary Hahn, as well as by their direct supervisor. The position allows for incredible growth and professional development as the postgraduate explores research and program evaluation, maternal mental health, environmental and economic policy, and the workings of government. The Postgraduate Associate will have opportunities to learn from others on the Elevate team with expertise in these areas as well, setting them up to discern potential next steps in their career.


The Postgraduate Associate at Elevate will have the opportunity to receive training in Elevate’s three main branches of work—Implementation & Scaling, Research & Evaluation, and Policy Analysis & Innovation. As an integral member of the team, the Postgraduate Associate will learn the values, goals, inner workings, and outward impact of the lab’s numerous partnerships and engagements, beginning with an extensive onboarding process.

Additional training will accompany specialized responsibilities, which may include creating research briefs on community based organizations, government agencies, and individual leaders in the fields of mental health, poverty, and public safety nets (e.g., TANF); analyzing public policy and public programs; drafting materials for implementing the MOMS Partnership, an evidence based mental health intervention; liaising and supporting external partners in MOMS replication sites; aiding in the development and/or submission of grant proposals; contributing regularly to social media platforms related to Elevate; and supporting the team’s administrative needs by scheduling meetings, taking notes, and preparing presentations. Responsibilities can grow commensurate with demonstrated talent and drive.

Education and Experience

  • BA/BS in psychology, pre-med, public health, policy, government, business, or related field
  • Highly motivated, meticulously organized, strong work ethic, fast learner
  • Strong communications skills including those relevant for social media platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, direction, and correction
  • GPA > 3.5

The Postgraduate Associate position is one year in duration with a salary of $36,960. Postgraduate positions are open to those who have recently received a bachelor and/or master’s degree, but not doctoral degrees.

Elevate seeks a Postgraduate Associate who can start as soon as June 1, 2021. The position may start remotely within the state of Connecticut in accordance with Yale University guidance around COVID-19.
